Introducing Oakland Roots SC x SFMOMA Collection Designed by Muzae Ses

SFMOMA is proud to announce a vibrant new collaboration with Oakland Roots Sports Club and renowned local artist Muzae Sesay–a beloved Oakland-based artist with deep connections to both SFMOMA and soccer.

This is a partnership that celebrates creativity, community, and the rich cultural fabric of the Bay Area. This landmark project centers around the 2025 CHARLY Third Kit for Oakland Roots, which was unveiled at an exclusive launch event at SFMOMA on October 2nd and will debut on the field October 7th at the Oakland Coliseum.

The limited-edition jersey, designed by Sesay and produced by CHARLY, draws inspiration from his painting The Sun Has Reached The Same Point As The Moon Above The Ocean. With bold, undulating forms and deep rhythmic color, the design channels the energy and mystery of the Bay waters. The phrase “It’s in the water”, printed inside the collar, nods to the shared sense of place that binds the club, the artist, and the community.

In addition to the on-field kit, the collaboration includes a capsule collection of apparel designed by Sesay and produced locally by Oaklandish. These items are available exclusively through the SFMOMA Museum Store (in-person and online).

“This is a surreal project for me to be part of,” said Sesay. “As someone who worked at SFMOMA and has always loved football, this collaboration is deeply personal. My hope is that it continues to build bridges between the art world and local sports communities.” Whether you're a fan of the game, a supporter of Bay Area art, or both this collaboration is a tribute to the shared spirit that moves us forward.
