About the artist:
Originally from Mexico City, architect Paulina Sevilla has collaborated with different architecture studios such as Tatiana Bilbao Estudio, where she had a creative role, in exploring the link between art and architecture.

To celebrate the exhibition Diego Rivera's America, the Museum Store invited Sevilla to interpret the universe of the Mexican muralist. As an architect, her approach was through two buildings that Diego inhabited in Mexico City: The Anahuacalli and the Twin houses.

The Anahuacalli is the temple of the arts that Diego designed in the 1950s inspired by Mesoamerican structures. The Twin houses were designed for Rivera and Frida Kahlo to live and work in the neighborhood of San Angel, by the architect and painter Juan O’Gorman.

For this project, Sevilla illustrated the spaces inhabited by the couple in these houses, including the important objects that characterize the place and celebrate Mexican culture. She also portrays the objects Diego collected, including the ''Judas'’, a variety of papier-mâché humans, skeletons and animal figures, and Rivera's extensive collection of archaeological pieces. She also created detailed drawings of both Mexico City and San Francisco, two of the most iconic cities in Rivera's life.
