Tia Kramer is a Seattle-based artist working intimately with precious metals and a distinctive paper she creates with Philippine plant fibers. Her unique waterproofed paper jewelry collection emerged first as three-dimensional models for a large permanent sculpture installed at Macalester College in 2003.
Influenced by daily interactions with the environment and movement, Tia aims to build an embodiment of sculptures for one's ears, architecture for the body. Using cold-form fabrication she creates wire structures that are wrapped in her vibrant translucent paper. On the wearer, her waterproofed paper adornments come alive. Like leaves on a tree limb, her jewelry punctuates the wearer's movement and expression. Kramer graduated from Macalester College and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
