The Moon Sun Bracelet is a nod to the Chinese lunisolar calendar. This adjustable design is made up of 15 beads to reflect the 15 days in each of the 24 cycles of the lunar year. The peony silk cord extension—a color selected for SFMOMA—allows for an easily adjustable slip-on fit. Each piece was meticulously handcrafted for SFMOMA in Abacus Row’s San Francisco studio.

The Yuan Yuan Collection draws inspiration from Chinese numerology and cultural symbolism. Specific numbers are regarded as lucky because of their similar pronunciation to other words. The number eight (八 bā in Mandarin, baat in Cantonese) is considered an auspicious number for its homophonous qualities to 发/發 (fā in Mandarin; baat in Cantonese) which means to obtain wealth.
